http://www.foodfacts.com has had a lofty goal: to let everyone know what is really in their food. For over 12 years FoodFacts has been cataloging and categorizing food.
We’ve been involved since the start, providing a development environment as well as programming the initial prototypes and securing a development team. For this last version, launched in July 2012, we provided development management and system infrastructure support.
As you can imagine, a website that is 12 years old has had many upgrades and changes over the years. Changes come in a slow and steady pace over the years, and the process of integrating them was patchwork at best. Changes were always done by a development team, which meant technical involvement in even the most simple changes. By migrating the site to a Content Management System based on Joomla, non technical editors and authors can now make changes using workflow.
The most dramatic change was to incorporate an interactive social element to the site. A separate blog had been created over time, and it was important to integrate the content into the main site along with the ability for viewers to register and contribute to the site.
A design firm was contracted to create the look and navigation, while a development team sought to bring the site to life on a new platform. The result is a dramatic increase in functionality with a great new look.
